ABOUT ME

I received Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Psychology at York University. I went on to obtain my MA and PhD in Clinical Developmental Psychology at the APA-accredited program at York University in Toronto. I completed an APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry in Toronto (since renamed  Centres for Addiction and Mental Health – CAMH). I am registered with the College of Psychologists of BC (License #1553). Since graduating with my PhD in 2000, I have continued to develop my clinical knowledge and skills through training and consultation with other psychologists. I have worked on multidisciplinary teams throughout my career, broadening my knowledge.

My clinical career has focused entirely on working with children and youth and their caregivers. I have practiced psychology in a variety of public system settings, including schools, a community mental health centre, a day treatment program, a family court clinic, and several hospital-based mental health clinics. The bulk of my career was spent working at Ledger House in Victoria, a hospital-based inpatient child and youth psychiatry program. In these many settings, I have worked with children and youth with a wide range of presenting problems, profiles, and functioning.

I have provided training to other psychologists, both through clinical supervision, and through offering workshops on assessment.  I hold an Adjunct Professor position in the Clinical Psychology graduate program at the University of Victoria.

My favorite clinical work is doing psychological assessment.  I’m a firm believer that understanding brings change and empowerment, for both the child/youth and their parents and teachers. I bring a compassionate and professional, yet playful, style to my work that I hope provides an atmosphere of safety, trust, and hope.

More personally, I have lived in Victoria for 19 years, and it was the best move I ever made. I love the outdoors, and you will often find me out on the hiking trails. In my spare time I am an enthusiastic potter, who likes to make all sorts of things ceramic!
